“Humankind is being tested to become much more consciously aware of how to use the power of thought…. The key to solving the great planetary crisis you face lies in the compassionate recognition that humanity has essentially developed a collective fear of the power to create. These times call for you to know your mind and your beliefs and to become an extraordinary creator of your reality.” – Barbara Marciniak, Path of Empowerment
Today Mercury the Magician, having reversed back into visionary Sagittarius on December 18th, returns to pragmatic Capricorn. Mercury rules the mind, perception, intelligence and communication. While Mercury in Sagittarius inspires expansive visions for the future, Mercury in Capricorn asks, How are you going to bring those big ideas into reality?
While Mercury Retrograde officially ended on December 29th, the influence lingers on until January 22nd, when we exit the “shadow” period. Ideally, we emerge from this Retrograde with increased clarity about our highest, most optimistic vision for the future (Sagittarius), and practical, concrete steps we can take to manifest this vision (Capricorn).
As I wrote about in a previous post (Making the Darkness Conscious), this Retro period has been particularly intense, due to Mercury’s conjunction with Pluto, Lord of the Underworld. Mercury and Pluto first met up on December 5th and 13th, and now they’re fast approaching their third and final union on January 17th. The third exact “hit” of the Mercury-Pluto conjunction brings resolution and healing to the issues you were grappling with in December.
If you have a copy of your birth chart, you can get more insight into the meaning of this influence for you personally. Find the house in your chart where 4-5 degrees of Capricorn lands. The areas of life represented by that house are where you’re being called to look beneath the surface, uncover and shed beliefs and misperceptions that no longer serve you, speak your truth, reclaim your power, and share your vulnerability.
On January 22nd, the same day that we’re finally free of the Mercury Retro slow-down, giant Jupiter — principle of expansion — will move into dynamic Aries. Then 2011 really gets cooking. With the perception that we are powerful beings who create our reality, Jupiter in Aries is an inspiring wake-up call to live our passions and express our authentic selves. Without that perception, the speeding up of outer-world events could engender increased feelings of helplessness and depression.
The upcoming Mercury-Pluto conjunction offers the opportunity to uncover and transform subconscious programs that undermine our creative authority. By confronting — with honesty and compassion — the demons lurking in the deep recesses of our minds, we reclaim our magical powers.
