“Plutonian darkness can mutate, through awareness, from blind and destructive to wise and regenerative…. [I]t is not the chart itself, but the native’s awareness, that determines how Pluto’s power will play out.” – Jessica Murray, Soul-Sick Nation
Pluto, god/goddess of the Underworld, will turn from Retrograde to Direct (forward) on Friday (11:24am PDT). The energy is building as what’s been hidden, repressed, denied or otherwise banished to the subconscious rises to the surface, demanding to be acknowledged, felt, healed and transformed.
Pluto has been Retrograde — appearing to travel backwards — since April 9th (see Entering the Underworld). For the past five months, the Pluto part of each of us has been on a vision quest, called to investigate underlying patterns and motivations. Pluto Retrograde asks: What has become stagnant and what are you ready to release? How have you given away your power? Where in your life are you motivated by fear, controlled by subconscious habits and patterns?
Pluto in Capricorn (2008-2024) specifically stirs up themes around commitment, integrity, responsibility, time, career, ambition, success and worldly power. What are you really committed to, and what are you responsible for? Are you devoting time and energy to what you say you’re committed to? Is your work in the world aligned with your soul’s mission? What does success mean to you, and what are you willing to do to achieve it?
As Pluto stations — appears to stand still in the sky before changing directions — these themes come into focus. And as Pluto starts moving forward again, it’s time to take action on the truths that you’ve uncovered during this Retrograde. Yes, feel those icky feelings that arise, grieve the past, forgive yourself and others — and then move on. Capricorn is an uber-pragmatic Earth sign, and Pluto in Capricorn wants you to simply take the next step toward your goals.
If you have a copy of your birth chart and want to get deeper insight into where these Plutonian themes are being stirred up for you, find the house that contains 4 degrees Capricorn. The areas of life represented by that house are where you are being called to get ruthlessly honest with yourself, grieve the past, transform and release old patterns and behaviors, and dig deep within yourself to find forgiveness. What’s one step you can take to move through the fear and start creating what you want?

I love to visit. Your forecast are on point.
Thank you, for sharing.
Thanks so much for reading & commenting, Magnolia!
Excellent article! Pluto has been blowing up my 2nd house since 2004 but the cappy transit has put an exclamation point on every thing material/financial. I do see and feel the transformation. I am embarking on a new career, one that is my calling. Taking a huge risk but it’s time…Thanks for your amazing insight!
Thank you, Jo! Sounds like the perfect time to start making money in a new way – congratulations on taking that risk, and I wish you luck in your new work! Emily
I think happiness and health are the big issues. If I can work where I can accept myself and be healthy and happy AND LAUGH, then from there I can conquer the Universe. By first conquering myself, no matter how long that takes. It comes down to overcomming addiction and sin, because that is all very costly financially and emotionally.
Ah, yes, laughter – thanks for that reminder. G!
IT (Pluto) is sitting right on my ASC in direct opposition to natal Sun …I have no words …really … :/
it is as if i am going to explode or implode idk …
Sounds very intense, Lily – hang in there!! The good news is that, once Pluto is moving forward again, you’ll be emerging from this long Underworld journey, ready for a rebirth. Wishing you Capricorn perseverance and Cancer self-nurturing through this time, Emily
TNX Emily, that Cap/Cancer Combo is exactly what has been sustaining me thus far, great blog xx
Hi Emily, Is it possible not to have any house in Capricorn? I’m looking at the my natal chart wheel I downloaded from another website and the Capricorn sign is empty. Hmmm…
hi Catherine,
Every chart includes every sign of the zodiac, so Capricorn is in there somewhere! However, depending on the chart system you use, it’s possible that Capricorn is “intercepted” in your chart, meaning that you won’t find that sign at the beginning of any house, but it’s within that house. If that’s the case, look for the houses that start with Scorpio and Aquarius, and Capricorn will be in the house between them. Does that make sense? Feel free to email me your info, and I’ll let you know which house. Emily
Oops – I meant between Sagittarius and Aquarius! (where is my mind…)
But what if you have absolutely NO planets in Capricorn in your birth chat, Emily?
Emily thanks for your reply and Gibo thanks for your comment. I don’t have any planets placed in Capricorn, I think that explains why I can’t find the house! Doh!
hey G & C – No planets, no problem! Your birth chart contains EVERY sign of the zodiac, and (whether we like it or not), Pluto is always moving through some sector of your chart (currently, the one containing 4 degrees Capricorn).
So interesting I was definitely feeling all this before I read your blog; your post just confirms it all for me! Thanks for being on the ball, as usual:)
Thank you! This one, in my experience, has not been subtle…
My sun is 5 degrees Capricorn, so this must be significant.
Significant indeed! Preparing for a rebirth. Wishing you a brilliant reemergence from the Underworld.
Thanks for that! I have definitely been involved in the underworld for some time.
Ready to reemerge indeed!
Hipnat Fandangler! What about me, what about me!? My rising sign is in 6 degrees Capricorn, EMILY!!!??
