A Turning of the Tides – Multiple Stations at the Pisces New Moon

piscesSaturday’s New Moon in Pisces (12:00 am Pacific) is punctuated by a pile-up of planetary events, a major shifting of energies. Four planets (appear to) change directions within a week, and the rare abundance of stationary – apparently motionless – planets recommends rest, reflection and retreat.

Mercury was the first planet to make the switch, from Retrograde (backwards) to Direct (forward) early this morning. Since February 6, Mercury Retro invited you to rethink your future vision, re-inspire your imagination and reconnect with your intuition. Perceptions and ideas that were submerged beyond the reach of your conscious mind now erupt into awareness – instant intuitive downloads, changes in perspective, and new possibilities for moving forward.

The Pisces New Moon is a time to re-source yourself in the deepest truth of who you are – infinite, eternal, divine. Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac, where everything dissolves back into the great, mysterious ocean of consciousness. The Pisces season washes clean the astrological year that’s coming to a close, a time for healing, regeneration and spiritual replenishment in preparation for the Spring Equinox rebirth, March 20. The spring season is when the uber-intense astrology of 2014 kicks into high gear, so take advantage of this Piscean pause point to remember and reconnect with your source, your true self.

neptuneThe New Moon (at 10 degrees Pisces) closely conjoins both Neptune (5 Pisces), god/goddess of the ocean and the modern ruler of Pisces, and Chiron (13 Pisces), the Wounded Healer who guides us through our deepest pain to access our greatest gifts. Neptune’s participation in the New Moon amplifies Piscean energies – sensitivity, compassion, intuition, imagination and access to the Dreamtime. Also readily accessible are the more shadowy Piscean potentials – addiction, escapism, overwhelm and denial.

How we navigate intense feelings, especially grief, often determines where we land in the spectrum of possible Piscean expression. If we can open enough to feel all the way through the grief and suffering, we access the place where we are all one. If we shut down around the pain and try to numb it with our favorite addiction, we reinforce the illusion of separation and feel all alone. (Pisces astrologer and flower essence practitioner Jen Gouvea suggests essences to support you through this New Moon, see Flowers for the New Moon.)

Chiron in Pisces brings into focus the places where we still feel separate from Source, and calls for practices and techniques to reconnect body and spirit, visible and invisible, temporal and eternal. Dreams, music, art, poetry, dance and prayer are especially potent avenues for healing right now.

mars retrograde

from Botticelli’s Venus and Mars

Each New Moon signals a new beginning, but just hours after this New Moon, Mars – planet of action, passion, desire and vitality – turns Retrograde. Mars Retrograde, until May 20, slows momentum and asks you to reconsider where you’re headed and how to get there. Mars in Venus-ruled Libra highlights relationships of all kinds, and ultimately your relationship with yourself, the inner marriage. On Sunday, Saturn will also turn Retrograde, until July 20, a period for deep internal restructuring, and reclaiming power from where you surrendered your emotional authority.

Since the action right now is very much on the inner, this New Moon is best used for shoring up inner resources and connecting with your dreams and higher vision rather than launching a bold new initiative. To get more insight into what this New Moon means for YOU, find the house in your birth chart that contains 10 degrees Pisces. The areas of life signified by that house are where you’re invited to: restore your faith and reconnect with your true self; lean into the big picture and higher vision; use your imagination and fantasize about your ideal outcomes; dissolve the past and surrender to the mysterious flow of life.

    Hi Emily,

I have followed Art of The Feminine for years and enjoy the wisdom and inspiration shared.

I’m just wondering whether you could explain to me so that I can understand the astrological information given better.

You see, I’m reading this from the Southern Hemisphere (the tiny heart shaped island of Tasmania to be exact). How does this change the prediction and the new energy coming through?

Obviously when you Northerners have spring equinox we have autumn.

How does this affect the way we are affected by the planets and their change of direction?

    • emily says:

hi Deb – Thanks so much for your thoughtful question. As far as the planetary stations (changes of direction), the astro-weather is the same. The main difference is, as you said, the seasons. But there’s also a longer discussion about astrology in the northern and southern hemispheres that is beyond what I can get into now… New Moon blessings to you, Emily

Good goddess Emily, when do we get to ride that Horse! I feel like I have been doing inner work for sooooooo looooong! Thanks for your awesome assessment of the planets! 🙂

hi Katy! Well, we get to be pulled along by Neptune’s seahorses in any case… Things will get moving for real this summer, I promise! xoxo, Emily

How do I find the house in my birth sign and at 10%?

  5. Hmm… Pisces new moon close to conjunct my own moon in Pisces this time, and first house. I sometimes wish this moon of mine was in some other house. But then I’d be a different person, with a different ascendant, etc. Ah well…

Great information about this Pisces New Moon and how to make the most of the next few weeks. The intense energies from Mercury Retrograde continue, but focus themselves in a new direction.

Here are some great insights to support navigating this Pisces New Moon and the next weeks’ waters. Thanks Laura Bruno for sharing this and Emily Trinkaus for writing it. You might also enjoy Mystic Mamma’s article on the Pisces New Moon energy as well, which you can explore here: http://www.mysticmamma.com/new-moon-in-pisces-march-1-2014/ Both offer valuable information to help you to understand the energies of the current field of experience. Remember, to make the most of what you read and study, it becomes essential to actually put it to practice, integrate, and actively implement with the wisdom gained. As a native Pisces, this energy is very familiar to me, but even us fellow Pisceans know our areas of challenge, so it’s always a good reminder to have things pointed out, especially since Pisceans can easily morph into that dreamy unity state. Part of having those two fish as our symbol, is to learn how to balance out our energies and not go off too deep in any one way, even though it feels really good. That is the illusion to be careful of – not to drown in escapism, addiction, overwhelm, and denial (as Emily so well points out). The imagination is a wonderful and powerful tool, but we need to learn to use it for actualization, rather than retreat from things. Happy Pisces New Moon! Refresh yourself, your principles, and intents, revisit the pains you’ve blocked so you can open more vulnerably and powerfully, release, and renew into a more expansive experience that Spirit guides from the core of you.

Lovely! I am thoroughly enjoying this New Moon… Plunged deep into waves of sadness/grief/trauma yesterday… Shedding huge salty tears as I sobbed… scrubbing through old wounds… bubbling to the surface… ecstatic to be released… In the evening I was fortunate to share loving movement space with a large group of Cirque Folk… I worked through my personal misalignments until my Heart was OPEN… felt incredible to plow through the healing instead of continuing patterns of avoidance… Truly grateful to experience what OPEN feels like…. lighting up all the nooks and crannies… full exposure… LOVE!
